A Jumping Pillow for a Sea Side Resort
Hornsea, a small sea side Town in the East Riding Yorkshire was the setting for a Jumping Pillow installation at Hornsea Freeport which was the UK’s first factory outlet shopping Village, bringing an American concept to the East Coast of England.
Factory outlet-style shopping has become popular throughout the UK, providing all the convenience of a shopping centre with pleasant surroundings, family facilities and children’s entertainment.
Back in the 17th century Hornsea was an agricultural village and market centre and by the late 18th century it became fashionable for wealthy people to visit the seaside mainly for health reasons, sea bathing became popular enhanced by a mineral spring with water that was believed to be medicinal, a pleasure pier and summer horseracing on the beach.
1891 saw the development of the Promenade Gardens, band stand and Floral Hall becoming the main venue for indoor entertainment. In 1913 the Imperial Hydro Granville Court Hotel was opened with Turkish baths and an indoor swimming pool.
The Hornsea Pottery company was founded in 1954 developing a factory with a tea room and guided tours . In 1992 Hornsea Pottery Freeport was established and subsequently acquired by Freeport Leisure which created a shopping village catering to the increasing popular pastime of leisure shopping.
Hornsea has a Blue Flag Beach and the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, Hornsea Mere which is popular for fishing and sailing.
Hornsea Freeport maintains its individual character as a family-friendly, pleasant village with winding paths and plenty of areas to sit and relax.
Live entertainment, special events, children’s activities and places to eat and drink makes it a popular choice for a family day out.
We installed a size 5 Jumping Pillow in the outdoor adventure Play area Beach Cove to compliment the Zip Wire, giant sand pit and electric car racing track.
Since the installation Hornsea have added a canopy over the Jumping Pillow to allow for all year round use.
